Cross-border Information

    Why Algeria?

Algeria is Africa's leading natural gas producer, exporting more than 80% of its gas to Europe, as it ranks among the top three oil producers in the region with the third-largest oil reserves in Africa.

And that is only the tip of the iceberg, as two-thirds of the country’s prospective acreage is ripe for exploration, with great offshore exploration potential, and vast, untapped shale gas resources.

In terms of exploration potential, Algeria has immense potential with two-thirds of prospective acreage being underexplored or unexplored. Drilling density averages 14 exploration wells per 10,000 sq km, with only limited offshore exploration. With 41 potential licenses made available to foreign investors, opportunities to enter Algeria are more numerous than ever.

Algeria is one of the biggest innovators in the gas industry, having some of the most successful gas fields globally:

  • Hassi R’Mel, the largest gas field in Algeria, a 2.4 TCM giant, with probable reserves of 3 TCM

  • Amenas Gas Project: the largest wet gas development project in Algeria, producing 9 bil cubic meter per year and 50,000 barrels of condensate per year

  • The Tin Fouye Tabankort gas field: Producing over 80,000 barrels per day for 6 years

Major investments are taking place, as Sonatrach will invest $250 million to increase the output at the Tinhert gas field from 5 million cubic metters to 20 million cubic meters per day. This new wave of investments are opening the way for service providers and consultants.

Register now and connect with the IOCs behind these discoveries, meet your future partners and find how to make your own successful venture in Algeria.

Why now? New hydrocarbons, new opportunities

Algeria is making changes to its hydrocarbon law and its fiscal terms to attract more international oil companies as partners by creating a favourable legal and fiscal regime for IOCs to operate in and profit from its vast resources.

Join the official Algeria Summit and Exhibition and acquire the necessary knowledge to identify and make the most out of the potential opportunities in Algeria. Strengthen your network of contacts and develop your activities in the country.
